This is a white charcoal sketch of M13 from a few days ago. The seeing and transparency were very good and this was the best view I've ever had of this cluster, including from a much darker site.

It's quite a challenging cluster to go after. Good sketch, and you've got guts.

Wow, great results with the white charcoal! Very nice depiction of the star trails.

Tenth Its a great sketch, very accurate rendering of the great cluster. I feel kind of dumb but Ive never herd of white charcoal. Is it simmiler in use to chalk an black paper?

TenthEnemy,
A most impressive sketch of M 13. It is very challenging to sketch globular clusters as those who have tried know well. It looks great.

Thanks for the comments. The white charcoal pencils I used for this seem to work great for clusters, and globs in particular. They are both soft and difficult to blend. I don't like them for diffuse objects because of the blending properties. It's very easy to sketch the magnitude difference of the stars, and stippling in all the tiny stars you find in a glob is no problem. I prefer the charcoal over graphite for globs, and I'd recommend picking some up if only for that purpose.
