I'm getting very weird results with my SkyScout right now, I keep getting the completely wrong coordinates, the Skyscout thinks I'm in the Phillipines.

Hi, welcome to CN.
Hmmm..... I have a used SkyScout and never had a problem like that. Are you sure you are getting a good GPS lock? Once it gets the lock, then it gets the lat/log and time from the GPS.
There is an option to set the lat/long, time and GMT offset, but these "zero" out if it gets a GPS lock.
My unit is an old second hand one. It didn't have the battery sleeves so I made some out of brass tube and the thing is very accurate, as long as the compass isn't being tripped up by nearby metal.
Why do you think it's in the Phillipines? Where are you?

How do you know it is so far off? Is that where the lat/long is saying? If you didn't enter it, then it must have been picked up by the GPS. Either it got a really bad lock or the unit is defective. Is the error repeatable?

If the SkyScout is giving you coordinates of 14-deg North, 121-deg East then you're in the Philippines alright where I am (Manila) but since you're in NJ, there must be something wrong if you're getting these coordinates after a GPS lock. My SkyScout is always right on the money every time it gets a GPS lock; try Jim's suggestion of multiple tries to see if the error repeats itself. Good luck.

A Bad Fix is usually the result of interference/obstructions. Try it in a clear area away from possible sources of RFI--bad power pole transformers, etc., etc.
