Hi Mike, Thanks for putting that pic up. I just purchased a FS128 and have been looking for a mount. Looks as if i will go down the EQ6 path.
So you find the mount handles your scope just fine?
Regards, David.

Hi David,
Yes its an excellent and sturdy match for the 128, but i had issues with the standard EQ6,due to micro vibrations at powers of x200 up.This does not seem to be a problem with the upgraded stepper motors in the Syntrek/Synscan version,of which i decided to go for the Syntrek. For planetary,i do not need go-to.

Beautiful setups. What's the total weight with the AP900?
Sorry I didn't visit this thread for some time. The ATS pier is around 30 lbs, the AP900 is, I dunno, maybe 30 lbs, but the counterweight and shaft will add, I dunno, maybe 15 or 20 lbs to that, but of course all these parts screw on you don't carry them at once. So where we at? 100 lbs?
The ATS pier is very light. The marine battery power supply is the heaviest single part of my equipment.

gnowellsct, I had to laugh when I saw your pic, reminded me of my outings here in lake effect country! We deserve a medal for our efforts. And that weather is all too near...

Greg-Nice scope! The focuser is an improvement, certainly for visual use. How do you like the tripod? I've got a Giro III that I use on a Gibralter tripod with my two refractors and find it jittery at moderately high power.
Hi Adam, thank you for your comments. The FS128 is indeed a nice scope. I have seen two or three Gibraltars in action and I'm afraid my bottom line view is that Televue did not put their best thinking into that one. I see you're not using the standard Gibraltar head, and went for the heaviest duty Giro, so that's smart. But to answer your question, the Berlebach is rock solid with the FS128, whatever the power. Damping time is too fast to really estimate. I think you would find it a big step up. I don't really know how it rates price wise compared to the Gibraltar.
I find it easier to set up than the G11 tripod. (I assume you're talking about the Berlebach tripod and not the ATS pier in a lower photo).

This is not my favorite refractor, but it is my most used refractor. Can anyone guess why? It's a Vixen f/6.5 102mm.

my grab n go setup, just ~200Lbs, light enough for one person setup...
now I run the mount with a 48v Lithium battery and it can last for several nights

Me want!
Seriously, that scope has to be in some isolated islands to reach its full potential. Hong Kong island, Kowloon are way too light polluted.

Oh, you know Hong Kong so well
At certain spots on Hong Kong island, we can still see the Milky Way, but it's much better to move to those nature park at New Territories, and I am planning my 3rd dome there. I go observing with my friend a lot, he got a Obsession 18" UC. It's fun to parallel test the lunar, planetary and deep sky performance of these 2 telescopes.
Currently I am practicing some planetary work with this .

I left Hong Kong and moved to Canada in 1987. I haven't been back since
I did join a few astronomy groups in 1985 and 1986. I was very young back then. I was like eight years old.

no wonder.....
yes, deep sky work is seriously limited by the light pollution here, but narrow band imaging is still ok.
Of course, I do plan to fly this setup to Taiwan and West Australia for astrophotography adventure once a while.
