The perfect binocular chair?
      #3297846 - 08/27/09 01:57 PM Attachment (72 downloads)

I bought this inverting table to help my bad back, allowing me to invert to decompress the spinal column but soon realized that with a parallelogram mount such as the Sirius Unimount it could allow me to view at the zenith comfortably.

This would be ideal for MW sweeping as with a degree of freedom in the azimuth of the mount, I can comfortably move my head +-45 degrees (90 degrees) in azimuth without moving the position of the table.

Obviously, for astonomy I would use it as shown in the picture for 45 degree binoculars or horizontal for straight through binoculars for viewing the zenith.

OBTW, works great for my neck pain while inverted.....

Mounting both the 'chair' and P-mount stand on a suitably-sized turntable, you could use a push-pole to orient generally in azimuth and hence not have to alight onto the ground in order to reposition stuff.

--------------------
Home-made 11X50 right angle bino, 8.1 deg. FOV
Modified 26X100 bino, 3.5 deg. FOV
Home-made Mk II RA bino, using interchangeable objectives and eyepieces

Thought of that....probably just use it as a meridian (transit) scope and let things move through the fov. Remember, I can move the binoculars through 45 degrees of arc either side of the meridian so this allows a lot of flexibility in observing without moving the chair.

I spent 4 hours last night in a sleeping bag on my backyard deck watching the MW move through the zenith....amazing how fast things move.

Well now Ed, don't go putting too much stock in that scenario.
I'm certainly feeling my years, and although I can't swear to it ..... I do believe my wife may have 'lubed the chute' to my aforementioned party!!

I for one think this is really cool Mr. Bill! I just don't know if I'd ever want to get back out of them Imagine the possibilities if a table for snacks and drinks were added One could watch game by day and the stars by night!

OK....first iteration was clumsy.

Bought UA UniMount Light...much better solution.

A definite improvement, I'd say! Less mass to tote around, for starters. I like the business end of the p-mount, too.
