Three From Last Night
      #3300273 - 08/28/09 03:56 PM

Hey there

The seeing wasn't the best last night, anything south of M2 was next to impossible to see, but I managed to get a couple of sketches down.

Hope you enjoy them.

Veil Nebula

I needed and O-III to view this stunning object.

M2

There's more to this globular but the seeing wouldn't permit me to see it.

NGC 7243

A big beautiful cluster in Lacerta that looks to be split in two.

Thanks for your time.

Paul,

You have rendered your targets beautifully. I especially like your drawing of M2.

Nice sketches and nice charactering! Do you choose the type according the object?
I like NGC 7243 a lot. I tried it last year but I made a complete mess of the cluster. It was one of the first sketches I made... I used a 30 cm Dobson, magnification 80x (to much for this cluster).

Thanks for the kind words guys.

The seeing wasn't too good that night Jef, so I kept well away from the horizon, M2 being the exception. The 32mm gave me a magnification of X47 which framed the cluster nicely.

By the way, I would be embarassed to show some of my first attempts. Did you keep sketching Jef?

Paul

Yes, I keep on sketching. And there is some progress... For the moment I'm sketching all the Caldwells visible from my hometown (C1 to C67). I allready passed 50 Caldwells but I'm stuck for the moment. I need darker sky for the more faint DSO. My home has NELM of 4.5. Another observerving site I use (40 minutes by car from my home) has only 5.5. Not enough for the faint DSO in the Caldwell-list, even with my 30 cm Dobson.
From time to time I post a sketch on the forum. I have also some sketches who were ASOD.

Paul,

Excellent observations of a variety of deep sky objects (M2, NGC 6960, and NGC 7243). You have recorded them all very nicely, especially the Veil Nebula. Thank you for sharing them with us all.

Jef- An excellent observation of NGC 7243. Thank you for sharing it with us all.

Carlos
