ETX-125 versions? new
      #3204244 - 07/07/09 01:47 PM

Excuse me if I missed a thread that explained this, but I'm trying to figure out the differences between various flavors of this scope (EC, AT, PE, ?) Can anyone help?

Thanks!

I've seen that site, but didn't really find what I was looking for -- how to compare and identify the different versions.

To be a bit more specific, how do the AT and PE models differ?

TIA!

The PE has Meade's LNT system. That's a red dot finder that incorporates level sensors and an electronic compass. It also has a battery to keep time date current. In use, it's like a GPS without a GPS. Unless you move to a significantly different locale, all you have to do is put the scope in a simple home position and turn it on. It gets time/date from the LNT, levels, finds north, and then heads for the first of two alignment stars. You center these two stars, and you are ready to go. This has worked very well indeed on my 125PE.

That sounds like a very nice upgrade feature.

Thanks for the info.

I started with an AT and went to a PE. The only thing that bugged me was the PE got rid of the tabletop tripod leg mounting holes. And since I like the feature I didn't like the PE. So I bought a LNT red dot finder new off the Meade website for a DS scope. Got it mounted and have best of all worlds......for me at least
