Ok guys, so is it really true that the Zeiss 60mm is 'all that" !! .... How would it compare to a good 60mm f/15 or f20? .... Like, would it blow it out of the water on planets??
That depends, of course, on just how good the lens is on the other scope...
If the lens is superb, then no, it won't blow it out of the water. If the other 60mm f/15 is a standard run-of-the-mill China achromat, then yes, it will blow it away.
If I stop my 80/1200 Vixen down to a 60mm f/20, it has vastly better color correction than my Zeiss Telemator and arguably gives visibly better lunar-planetary performance, though the Telemator is a bit brighter.
Clear skies!

Ok Ok ... well, of course.... I've got a wonderful 60mm Sears f/15 .. single knob metal focuser ...I'd guess circa 1958 or so .... Throws a fantastic image of Jupiter and Moon... So, I'd guess you're saying I wouldn't be 'blown away' then.
Ok, just wanted to know. Thanks.

Nope, no blowing out of the water, but they are very sharp. I looked through one, and was impressed, but I'll keep my Carton 60mm f/16.7, thanks! The Telementor sure was a beauty though, and it was indeed built like a tank. I think when you add in the fineness of the lens, along with the build quality, they are worth what they sell for.
