We are preparing a "comet hunter" achromatic refractor and lens/cell combo in 9 inch F/7.7. If we get a positive feedback from amateur astronomers we will produce first few by end of this year. If any of you would be interested please contact info@istar-optical.com The optical design for this lens is done and we are also looking into 10 inch F/7. We can go as low as F/5 if anyone prefer. Also in contrary to some comments on CN, these are not mass produced generic lenses.

The 9" sounds very interesting. Would it be standard crown-flint or some lower dispersion glasses used for slightly better than achro performance? I think the 9" would be preferable over the 10 for me.

If we get at least three people seriously interested in this fast 9 inch Achromatic lens in cell we will produce them as per above message. These are Crown Flint glass and we hand figure each system very carefuly.

Has Mike Spooner had any, or does he have any, involvement with your firm?

Hello Siegfried, no Mike is not involved at this time. We were in contact about one year ago before we registered ISTAR in Page, Arizona. Mike lived in Page but moved down to Phoenix some years back. But my plans are to get together with Mike early 2010 (if he is going to find some time for me) and discuss some local lens production possibilities. At this time I am more involved with telescope making in Europe.

I WILL BE LEAVING BACK FOR EUROPE ON SEPTEMBER 14 AND WILL NOT BE ABLE TO REPLY TO MY E-MAILS AND FORUM QUESTIONS UNTIL SEPTEMBER 17TH. During this time you can contact wendy@istar-optical regarding stock/production questions. Wendy will be more than happy to assist you. I am due back to Arizona by first week of January 2010 after all new telescopes are in production there. We will open a new store/shipping center in Page, Arizona by end of January in order to serve better and quicker to all US and Canadian customers. Until that time, most of the lenses and accessories will ship from Europe but we do ship our diagonals and eyepieces and some lenses (for example the 8 inch F/9 and 6 inches F/10) already from Page, Arizona (as well as from Europe for European customers). So thank you all for your understanding, patience and support!

Hello, the first 9" F/7.7 lens has been manufactured and is available in Europe as of Nov. 6th 2009. We should have first finished Wide Field telescope ready by end of this year. As per your question regarding glass, it is Flint-Crown Fraunhofer type Achromatic design.

Hello Ales
Are you thinking about the possibility of coming to NEAF (Northeast Astronomy Forum)?
That would be perfect to show off your new products (both APO & achro) to thousands of amateur astronomers.
