SW prom
      #3318078 - 09/06/09 07:16 AM Attachment (21 downloads)

Managed a bief view of the Sun today. The seeing was fair but it was very hazy (also makes focusing difficult as well) which has reduced contrast. I think the prom extends further than my image but the edges have been washed out.

Great shot, Paul!
Because I think that your seeing could be similar to mine today, I wonder what exposure time you use. I use 1/30 or 1/38 sec.

Thanks everyone
I usually capture proms at 1/30sec (2.5x powermate) with maybe a bit of gain (I don't think I have gone above 450 with this scope) and the gamma set between 60-100 depending on the transparency, the higher the better. There was so little contrast between the proms and surrounding space that I had to reduce the gamma to about 40.
I tried a 2x barlow lense on the end of the dmk it seemed to work well with 1/38sec exposure times with no gain.

Nice capture paul. Interesting reading about how you adjust the gamma, i've just left it as is - till now... So, some clear skies and then a little experiment me thinks
