I recently purchased a tripod adapter for my 10x50s. It's basically useless, though, because the stalk of the adapter rotates around the axis of the screw even when the screw is attached to the binoculars and tightened. The result is binoculars that rotate left and right very easily when mounted.
This is the adapter I have: Blue Fireball Binocular Tripod Adapter
Is this a common problem with binocular adapters? Did I get a defective adapter? Should there be a lock-washer on it? It seems like it should be simple thing, but it doesn't work.
Any ideas?

Andrew...
You appear to have a defective adapter. I advise you return it for an exchange or refund.
If you need to purchase a new binocular adapter, you might try www.EagleOptics.com

It may not be your adapter. recently I've had 3 different pairs of binocular in which the screw hole was not deep enough for the adapter to screw all the way in. That left the binocular loose and wobbly. Usable but loose.

What EdZ said... I've "solved" the screw problem with a collection of nylon washers, which help snug up the screw and solve the too shallow hole problem. for less than a $1 US it is at least worth a try. They come in a variety of diameters, hole diameters, and thicknesses. Check out a local full service hardware store.

I got mine on ebay for .99 with free shipping and it works perfectly. I've got no wiggle room once I twist it down all the way. When I get home I'll try to see if I can find the seller.

Thanks guys.
Bob, I think I'll contact the vendor to see what his thoughts are on this. Thanks for the link.
Ed, good to know. I didn't think about the screw hole being too shallow.
Leo9, I'll try it. I was thinking I'd have to do something like this.
Nugget, that's a cheap adapter. Amazing. PM me or post if you find the seller.

Here is the link I was messing around with it last night and there is a little play but it is still fairly sturdy and they don't move on their own. But for .99 you can't beat that.

Andrew, I have exactly the same binocular adapter (Blue Fireball) bought from the same seller! I have both the heavy duty and slim profile Blue Fireball adapters. They are both great (the heavy duty is a little better), my 10x50 does rotate left and right but NOT easily. I don't think it's the adapter (this is metal not a cheap plastic adapter!).

This is a plastic adapter, it is inferior to the Blue Fireball adapter.

I really was not happy with the tripod adapter that came with my binocs and went out and purchased the FarSight mount and corrected many of the screw problems you speak of and I am very pleased with it. It costs a bit but using it with other binocs is not hard so it's really a multi-mount.

FWIW, the Far Point binocular mount will not work with any of the Signature/Ultra style binoculars. The thin adapter highlighted in the first post in this thread is a premium adapter and is "made to fit" this style of binocular with a deep set adapter attachement.
FWIW2, that same thin profile heavy duty metal adapter fits most roof prism binoculars, whereas the Far Point also does not work for roof prism binocs.
FWIW3, I would NOT recommend ANY plastic binocular adapters. They are good perhaps for binoculars weighing in at less than 2 pounds.
