I documented my build of creating an AP field battery. With my setup, I can run this battery for two nights in the field. Your Mileage May Very.

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum, but I thought this applied to CCD imaging when your out in the field. I know I can't go anywhere without it!

That's almost exactly the same components I used for mine, minus the box. Same battery and outlets etc. It does indeed hold up for a few nights in a row with room to spare.

Doug thanks for posting this as I've had a need for such a solution.
This is great.

Doug , this is superb DIY, I have all the components that you described in my storage (deep cycle battery, plastic box with the cover, 3 Way Power Strips with Power Switch made by BELL, etc etc ) and I have a very naive question for you...I am very electrically/engineering challenged, can you take a prepaid order (paypal) to make this DIY given I send you all components necessary (- the battery)
I would greatly appreciate your help ! Alex

Great work Charlie!
I've got to do something similar.. my setup relies on mains power for the camera, mount, dew heaters and laptop.. I'd love to get a couple of nights out in really really dark skies without requiring mains power... That would be brilliant..

Doug, just wanted to say thank you so much for this DIY! I just put mine together today and it works GREAT! I only did one side of 3 plugs for right now though.
Can anyone recommend a good, non-expensive charger?

Figured I would ask in this thread. I'm sure it's a noob question for some (me!) - but why use the 7.5 Amp fuse? Is that because you'll be consuming potentially up to 10 Amp/hour? Does the mount's 12V DC/1.5 amp adapter convert that safely?
And also looking for what kind of charger to use.
Sorry - this DIY battery has got me all excited!
