Hi all

In less than ideal conditions I managed to get a couple of clusters in Cassiopeia sketched before the mist became too bad.

Hope you enjoy them.

The Owl Cluster, I like the name the ET Cluster.

M103

A nice orange star sits at the heart of this cluster.

M52

This is a large cluster and the seeing didn't show it to it's true potential, I'm sure on a better night I'll get more out of it.

Thanks for looking.

Paul,

Even the angels are smiling at these fine sketches. Wonderful sketches of these fine open clusters. Adding the correct color to the bright stars really makes them special.

Nicely done and well presented. How do you add the color?

Thank you all for the kind words.

The colour is added in Photoshop Michael, the programme contains every colour you'll need.

Wonderfully bright, colorful and accurately sketched Michael! These open clusters are great choices. :

Brilliant sketches, Paul. I particularly like NGC 457; although I can't stand the film I think that the cluster does look more like the little alien in ET than it does an owl. It also makes me think of Johnny 5, the cute robot in 'Short Circuit'.
I was looking at these clusters myself the other night and M103 makes me think of a northern 'Jewel Box' but not quite as striking as that southern cluster. It also makes me think of the Klingon logo in 'Star Trek: The Next Generation'.

Paul,

Excellent observations of three interesting open clusters. They appear to sparkle on the monitor. Thank you for sharing them with us all.

Carlos
