Different "barlow" for binovue
      #3334566 - 09/15/09 03:57 AM

Hi,

I currently own a binovue, used mainly with a 20" F/5 reflector, 2x amplifier and 24mm Panoptics. In some objets, this produces more magnification than desired.

Is there commercially available an alternative, just like the 1.2x, 1.4x cells in denks?. Or maybe they can be adapted or something like that.

Thanks,
Manuel.

If you want to get to 1.2x binoview levels in a large reflector, your choices are limited to the optical corrector route embodied in the Denk/Siebert offerings currently available or you have to find another way to physically shorten the lightpath extension that the optical length increase of the BV creates.
So you either get the appropriate OC setup or you move the mirror up/shorten the trusses to reduce the length.
No other way, and aside from the Denk/Siebert solutions (they work very well, by the way) I know of no other way to over rule the laws of physics.
Maybe somebody else here does.

EarthWin has a single-epe power/filter switch that can be adapted for bino-use farily easily. I contacted them about this a while back when I had another type of binoviewer and he said they have many dovetail adapters to mate their power/filter OCS to just about any binoviewer. That way you can get a lower power, and two more mags when you need them. My Denks and a 24Pan combo worked very well with a similar setup.

He may even have some lower power OCS cells available for special order like Denkmeier does. Give them a call. Good luck!

I have finally cut the trusses, and now I'm using the binovue in 1x mode. The views are just amazing.

For mono view I cannot see any kind of vignetting in Nagler 31.

Thanks,
Manuel.

Bill at EarthWin Binoviewers does have different cells for the bino or powerswitch. They are 2" cells.
He has three different reducers.. 200/300/500 and
three different powers...1.00/1.50/2.00

I have all six and they all come in handy.

I only use one pair of 24 Panoptics for all my binoviewing.
