I have an ETX 125ec with UHTC, I need to know how well the electronic focus units work!!! I know of 2 out there, can anyone help. Do they keep the motion out of the scope when you focus the unit!!!

Totally worth it; I wouldn't be without my Motofocus. It will help a lot with vibration (but not eliminate it completely).

I get by with a simple flex-cable focus extension, but wouldn't mind a servo-based focuser. I'm just not going to pay the extra clams for it (on account of I'm a cheap old guy! ) I've seen a number of DIY projects, and if I can get my hands on the parts, I might be inclined to give it a whirl.

I don't have one on my ETX-125 (yet), but I do have one on my LXD75 SN6 and it's really nice, particularly when using high magnifications. It relly cuts down the vibrations and makes it much easier to precisely set the focus.

I do not own an EXT....but I use one on my single arm 8i and I have to disagree with the others here...
IT DOES ELIMINATE ALL my vibrations... once I power the scope up I do not have to physically touch the scope the rest of the night ...just push a button on the control box...
BTW... I use the same unit on my larger SCT also as it only takes 2 seconds to remove it and put it on the other OTA...
After YEARS of using the Motofocus I've kind of become fond of it...I estimate the battery life of the unit to be about 1-2 years OF HARD USE...
Initially I never left home without a spare battery ...I still carry one in my eyepiece case under the foam but battery life has been a non issue..

Edited...I forgot to mention I also use a Motofocus on my Meade AR-5 ... much for the same reasons as I have rock hard hands and have never been accused of having a gentle touch...

The focus drive on my LXD75 SN6 is a Meade #1240 that was originally designed for the DS-2000 scopes. I made a simple adapter to mount it on my SN6 and added a spur gear to one of the focus knobs. I'm going to try something similat on my SC8. The ETX-125 is a bit tougher as there's not a lot of room to work with. The MotoFocus looks like a good option.

Definitely worth it. Vastly reduces amount of cussing done at the eyepiece while trying to focus with gloves on in 30 degree weather...
