M31-15x70's-Dark Sky
      #3339092 - 09/17/09 10:19 AM

Last Friday evening I visited a campground to evaluate the sky conditions and had a chance to view M31 in 15x70's. I was completely overwhelmed with how spectacular it can stand out in dark skies. Because it is so large, the 15x70's worked very well for seeing the entire galaxy.

This has got to be one of the highlights of my brief period of being a binocular owner.

A dark sky does indeed work wonders! A pair of binos and dark skies are a match made in heaven. It seems that no matter what the power, there is so much to behold.

Enjoy your binos! You will find yourself using them more often!

Mary

That's why I like my Skymasters: light enough to hand hold, but can be mounted very well. Good overall bin class there!

M31 under dark skies is a very good bino object.Expecially 15x70 or 20x80, giving an idea how big the galaxy really is.
In a telescope you loose that because the fov is too narrow.

I was astonished at what I could see when I visited a dark site earlier this year. I didn't think it was possible to see M51 with 10x50's,it was easy under a dark sky. I should do it more often.

Yeah, M51 is surprisingly easy under dark skies. I've seen it in my 10x30s (IS). And M31 through bigger binos at a dark site is to me one of the greatest joys in observing.
