C5 nails 7006 GC at home new

Hi All:

Last week I took my old C5 (Orange Celestron Pacific) out for a look see (it was upset that it did not get to go the Oregon star party with me). As I was looking for targets, I selected 7006 (visual 10.6, sfb 12.58) and I nailed it. For a 5" inch scope about 6 miles from downtown Portland, Or., I think that was pretty good. Just a fuzzy ball, but no averted vision needed.

Amazing what you can see sometimes when you just look.

NGC 7006 is a dim unresolved clump even at decently dark skies with my 12". I think its spectacular distance of 135.4kly means you got about as good a view of this object as is possible with the equipment you got.

Thats pretty impressive. Luv the c-pacific bythe way and the aperture. I n my 8 newt it was totally unimpressive and flat.

You made a good catch in challenging conditions.

That is quite an accomplishment with a 5-inch from a light polluted area. As for resolving it, it takes a 20-inch class telescope because the brightest stars are 16th or 17th magnitude, it's farther away than most globular clusters and probably obscured significantly by interstellar dust as well. NGC-6934 is the other Delphinus globular and it should be in range of a 5-inch as well.
It's a ninth magnitude object about six-arc minutes across.

When you read what you're getting with 7006 it's amazing to me you can get it at all. It's further away than the galaxy is wide. It has a brighter absolute magnitude than M13. It maybe an inter-galactic wonderer. It's a very cool object.
