Solar activity 19 Sep
      #3343198 - 09/19/09 01:38 PM

There does not appear to be anything visible in "white light" associated with the "active area", which appears to be decaying.

2009 Sep 19,1119 UT, PST CaK @ f/20

2009 Sep 19,1134 UT, Solarscope SV60 @ f/32

The only prominence of any significance is off the north west limb:

2009 Sep 19,1136 UT, Solarscope SV60 @ f/32

Transparency was very good but with some drifting cloud; seeing poor to bad with heavy "boiling".

Nice images Brian - I especially like the CaK PST images - lots of invisible activity really jumps out in CaK.
I am heading out to do some observing (imaging) later this arvo in H-alpha - I hope to see something!
I believe a new sunspot may be coming into view over the next 24 hours - I hope it arrives early! Work tomorrow!

Bit of luck we might get the tops of any proms associated with it showing up today. My kit is setup ready as there is a band of blue sky spreading slowly towards the sun where I am...

I'd hoped there might be signs yesterday.

As for the cloud .... despite the forecast there is a lot of thick alto/stratocumulus about & the Sun is hiding behind a particularly stubborn bank of the stuff.

Thanks.

Yes, CaK does show things that are very hard or impossible to spot otherwise, but so does Ha - look at the "linear" trend in the Ha granulation running right across the image I posted yesterday, it goes left to right straight through the plage area. No trace of that in CaK.

Very true Brian. Apart from the proms and the decaying AR todays sun in my 40mm SM40 is a dead disk bar the orange peel. When I look in the CAK PST though it is a different matter: the sun has lots of bright spots and areas on the disk, and I find the harder and longer I look the more I see. I'm keeping a close eye on the limb in CaK for when the new spot comes round...
