This was a lot of fun and my Skywatcher 120ED is turning out to be a fine little scope. Unfortunately, it's now apparent that I have a giant floater right in the middle of my FOV. The bands and zones are well recorded. The Great Red Spot (GRS) is recorded as a pale salmon-colored version of itself as it currently exhibits. Your Skywatcher 120ED refractor does appear to be a good instrument for the planets. Thank you for sharing it with us all. I look forward to your future observations. It's funny, but I'm assuming the moon that casted the shadow was there somewhere, but I sure couldn't see it. It's nice to check the imaging forum later and see if there's a shot around the same time that would show me how close I was. I'm realizing how fast the planet rotates, needing to add the positions of features first, and then detail them from left to right before the left side has rotated away! - j -------------------- Fight indignorance! The moons themselves can indeed be very hard to see against the planet's disk. It depends what portion of the jovian atmosphere the satellite is transiting at the moment (e.g. Bright band vs. dark belt), but in general it is usually not detectable. I have provided an image obtained from Starry Night that shows where the disk of Io and it's shadow were located at the time of your observation. Io is rather bright and it would have been difficult to detect at the time of your observation. I look forward to your future observations.
