Tonight near Midnight, with my new OB 15x70 Ultras on my arm I embarked on a night out. While strolling along near the intersection of AZ 87 degrees and ALT 38 degrees, I had a long awaited encounter with those lovely ladies of the evening, Alcyone and her eight shimmering sisters. My heart pounding, and short of breath, I reveled in their arms for 2 hours, exploring every arc second of their heavenly bodies. They are beautiful, and they promised many warm delights as the evenings grow colder!

The Pleiades really start coming into their own around 15x. The longer you look the more faint stars you see!
I love binoculars in this size; a real "happy medium" of image scale and FOV, IMO. Truly wonderful under really dark skies.

I agree that 15x binoculars , with as wide a true field of view as sensibly achievable ( and at least 4 degrees ) hit a sweet spot for casual star - gazing and other night sky observations .
Some may presume the simple statistic of a 5x increase ought to be directly proportional throughout the range , but there is no doubt that 15x magnification shows a great deal more than 10x , and to my eyes and mind , that 33.33% increase is clearly discernible over the 25% advantage that 20x provides over 15x .
I only wish I had a 15x binocular of higher optical quality than the one I have , with reasonably long eye relief .
To me , once the true field of view gets down to less than around 3.5 degrees , an aspect most agreeable when looking through binoculars is lost , which I suppose is another reason I am not particularly impressed by 20x binoculars , MOST of the time .
