I am looking to purchase a pair of 45 degree 100mm BT's and I am very torn between Oberwerk, Garrett, and American Optical which I think offers an ED glass version.
If there are others out there I am missing and are worth it please let me know and I can use all the help I can get when it comes to choosing a pair. I like the Fujinons but they are huge and way too pricey. I do already own a pair of Fujinon 16 x 70's and love them.
Anyway.....please if anyone has experience with these 100mm BT's let me know what good choices are. I will mainly use them for nighttime astro viewing.

welcome Neil to CNs,
I have the miuauchi 100mms (which is no longer being made), and have used the Vixen 125mms, but not the above.
Others can give you their experiences, but from reading the reports both the OB and Garrett has many fans, donot know yet about AO.

thank you for the welcome and the info. I would love to find a pair of Miuachi's with the florite lens but I guess nobody has come in to save their company.

Neil, are you sure about American Optical??? cant find anything related to that binocular brand.
If you are into something very good to perfect, you may like the 82mm Kowas, those come in fluorite and non fluorite versions....

Maybe the reference to American Optical is APM America?
They offer a "semi apo" ED doublet version of the United Optics basic Miyauchi clone offering.

after a ton of thinking I went ahead and purchased the Oberwerks......I am hoping these giants will satisfy my cravings

I've owned my Oberwerk 25x100mm BT since April of 2002 - they're one of my favorite pieces of observing gear.
I bought a used Celestron giant field tripod, and fabricated an aluminum mount adapter plate, along with a Unimount-like parallelogram mount for these binos. I can sit in a folding lawn chair, relax and look at the heavens with the binos while my telescopes do imaging work.
The parallelogram mount is a god-send for these things, they are a beast on a regular tripod.
