5CE1 firmware for 497EP handboxes
      #3349901 - 09/22/09 07:46 PM

I just checked my Autostar updater and see that 5CE1 is available for the 497EP handboxes. I have not been able to find out what is new in this version.

I don't know what was updated with 5CE1, but I have used it the last 3 nights and for me it has been great. The go-tos and tracking are right on the money!

Where can I get this update? Meade doesn't seem to have a download link.

If you download the latest version of Autostar Update and connect your scope & autostar to your computer, you enter the type of autostar you have (497EP) then press the "Update Autostar Now" button and 5CE1 will come up as the newest version. It is not yet listed on the Meade Autostar download site as a direct download. Be sure to update everything-it asks for 3 different things to update as it progresses.

During the startup the version will display. Either 497 or 497EP should be displayed. I recall there is another way to browse once it's booted, but can't recall exactly where to look.

The new 497EP handboxes have been out since early 2009.

Thanks, Bill. Mine is a late '07 scope, so I guess this is one maintenance item I can skip.
