This past Saturday I was prepared for another long and fun night of observing. The night prior I had finally seen M33 and even M74 so I was psyched for some other challenging objects. Unfortunately, my Palm TX decides to break-down and setbacks started to snowball so that I eventually had to go back into the house without much observing at all.
Long story short - by the time I finally got back to the eyepiece it was much later. Andromeda was my first target - just to get things started again. It looked surprisingly better than I had expected – probably the best I’ve seen it yet. I jokingly said "wow you look great tonight.” The instant after I said that, what I'm assuming was a meteor, splits the galaxy right down its core. As the streak passed, the trail seemed vapory and dissipated in such a manner that it reminded me of a speedboat zipping by on a lake and causing ripples. I tell you it had to be one of the coolest things I have ever seen through an eyepiece. In a moment of synchronicity, I felt as if the universe understood my frustration from earlier in the evening and gave me something to lift my spirits again.
When I looked at my watch it was 1:44am. I managed to salvage another hour and a half that night, with some other interesting objects but what I saw and felt at that moment I’ll be remembering for a very long time to come. Thank you universe.

Great story Jeff. I thought I was the only one that talked to objects in the sky.

I really enjoyed your story. Thanks for posting it. Those are the nights that keep us going out to observe.
