Adlerblick 7x50, anyone else have these?
      #3350372 - 09/22/09 11:04 PM

All this binoc talk got my dad talking with us and he went and pulled out a few in his aresnal I didn't know about, this was one of them. Pretty nice I must say, very nice views.

Also showed me some links to some cool military surplus binocs. Any thoughts on what some good ones to track down might be, with reasonable price tags? I know many of the models I saw in the Deutsche Optik catalog were sorta steep, but not all..

I have the 10x50 model. Very nice optics, very light, but I find the field a bit narrow. I believe that the 7x50 have very long Eye relief, either 23 or 26mm.

Ridiculous binocular collection
I've cut it twice and it's still too short.

Yep.
Got this one in the 1980's, still have and on occasion use.
When i got them, also got the rubber dew shields for them that replace the rubber cover around the objectives.

Nice add-on feature, so longer made I am sure.

Yes good glass. Monster eye relief.

I got the Adlerblick 7x50's about year 2000 or 2001. Also got the 10x50 and the 8x42. The 10x42 were sold because given their relatively narrow 5.3 degree true/53 degree apparent field, the edge of field was really rather poor, particularly as compared to Pentax PCF 10x50 with a similar size field but much better edge sharpness. Ditto the Leupold Wind River 10x50 and Orion Savannah, all with similar field size but better edge.

The 7x50 Adlerblick is in a whole different league. While the field is narrow - 6.0 degrees true/42 degrees apparent, the edge of field is great, virtually perfect almost to the edge. Comparing them to my Fujinon FMT-SX 7x50, the only differences (in addition to the Fujinon's being twice as heavy and having no center focus) is the 7.5 degree true field size in the Fujinon vs the 6.0 degree true field in the Adlerblick. The eye relief in both is substantial and the glass just seems to get out of the way in both - no eye strain, both are quite comfortable.

I believe the Adlerblicks are still available, I ordered mine from Valley Microscope in Canada. Apparently there are no U.S. distributors.

Yes. I have a pair. Beautiful glass. I have the older pair that was sold in the 80's by Orion. I got mine from a local dealer here in Canada when he only had a couple pair left in the early 90's It has a 7 degree field. It has very nice multicoatings-very little reflection and is very light weight. Terrence Dickinson's Nightwatch (1st edition) gives these a very high rating. Even though I now use my Canon 10 x 42L's more often, I'm never parting with my pair. The newer model does indeed have a smaller field at 6 degrees.

Today I was adjusting the collimation of my mom's 10x50 Bushnell "Insta-focus". While I was at it I went ahead and did some basic checks of a few others including the Adlerblick and a pair of Alpen 10x40s. Of course the collimation was dead on in the Adlerblicks, and the Alpens were good too.

Wound up doing some comparions of the three. There is no mistaking the nice views the Adlerblicks give. The images are vibrant, alive, full of color, sharp as a tack, all of that. They are also VERY comfortable to hold. I love the focus wheel too, very fine adjustments, loved it.

When compared to the much cheaper Bushnells you can certainly see the difference. The Bushnells focused fine, but its the image quality that really shows with cheaper brands. I describe the views as flat, drab, servicable. Perfectly fine for the price, but a dead image imo.

The Alpens actually blew me away. They produced a very vibrant image, very sharp. I was surprised at the optic power. And I think these are the cheap ones too, like 25 bucks online. If not they are certainly the 100 or less models. Really nice to hold too, and nice focus wheel action. I might snag me up a pair sometime.

But once you put those Adlerblicks back in your hands...the WOW factor is totally there. Incredible views!! I love them and wished I owned a pair of my own..someday perhaps...
