Recently I noticed that battery power no longer works on my ETX 90AT. I use a power supply all the time but recently tried battery with no luck. As an amateur radio operator I have some experience with circuit boards but I can't detect anything wrong visually. Power makes it to the board but that's all. It runs fine on the external supply.
This is a drag as I wanted to sell it. I'm willing to drop the price but really prefer selling things in 100% condition.
Has anyone else here had this problem with an ETX?
Thanks,
Joe

It's not unheard of for the battery leads to work themselves loose over time, but if you've already checked continuity and they're juicing the board, then I'm stumped. Have you checked Weasner's website yet? They have some uber-tech folks over there that might offer more insight.

I don't know what type of AC adapter jack the 90's have, but, on most electronics, the adapter jack has a built in switch, which breaks the circuit from the battery pack. It's usually a spring steel connector in the jack itself. If the 90 is designed this way, is it possible that the switch could be worn out?

astrowolf is correct. The switch is bad. Open it up and take a look. When you use an external power source it turns OFF the battery power. The spring is stuck most likely.

Completely forgot about the micro-switch in the adapter coupling. I haven't had one gum up or get stuck in any device in quite a few years, but it can happen. A small pick can gently persuade the switch. In some rare cases, the switch itself can just "wear out" and stick in either a short or open condition. At that point, you may need to head down to the local Radio Shack and replace the assembly.
Look at it as a means to keep your soldering skills honed.
