Generally for visual, yes a good match. My 8" SCT came with my CG5-Adv and it works well in the basic configuration. If you start adding guide scopes, bigger finders, imaging equipment, another 11lb counter weight, then I've found that it taxes the mount some. Even when well balanced. I found that my CG5 works much better with my Eon 80 and imaging setup, only 1 11lb CW needed.

Yes, this would be for visual only and with a pretty lightweight configuration.

I've had no problem autoguiding my mount for as long as I wish with a 66mm APO guidescope piggybacked and a Canon DSLR or an ST2000 on the rear cell. I do need two counterweights, but I need that for anything beyond just the bare C8 OTA.

If you go to telescopes.com and look up the Celestron CG-5 Computerized Telescope Mount (Item# CELE054), Q3 under Frequently Asked Questions states that "there is no way to adapt the C8 to that mount". Are they crazy? Don't they want to sell that mount? It just goes to show that you have to do your research and get information and opinions from a community like CN.

Not necessarily crazy, just mistaken. I've never bought anything from them, but judging from their catalog and website:
1. They have some good prices. 2. Nobody there knows much about telescopes or amateur astronomy.

One of the best matches on the planet. Perfect mount for the prefect size do-all telescope.
And you can compliment it with a nice 4" achro refractor for wide field work at a later time. The CG5 is perfect for a classic f/10 Achromat.
