Brunton 15x51
      #3355626 - 09/25/09 09:50 AM

Every now & then i decide to purchase something i know nothing about & find it is even much better than expected .
Fed X just delivered a Brunton 15x51 eterna.
Im amazed at how good this is for $299.
I have the Swaro 15x56 & the Garrett 15x70 & i also had the Fuji 16x70 .
All are exellent bins but way to heavy to carry about for very long .
This Brunton weighs 32 oz has optics the almost rival the Swaros .Its waterproof & for some reason i seem to be able to hold it steadier than any other high power bin i own .
It comes with a neat tripod adapter ,great strap. And a kinda stretch stocking type cover which to me is very practical.
All in all im more pleased with this than ive been in any bin purchase for quite a while .
Last time i was this pleased was with a Meade Montana 7x42 for about $150
Dont get me wrong .
They are not quite Swaro or Leica,
But for such a small amount of cash are both exellent buys.
They will be travelling a lot with me .
And Kenny they are light enough to carry to the UK on my next visit.
Brian.

Hi Brian

Your post is a pleasant surprise. I've never regretted buying the Brunton Eterna 15x51 in December 2005. It was my first "serious" binocular. It was a great convenience to have a high magnification binocular that I could hand-hold and mount. It was not the worse choice to reacquaint myself with the night sky after more than three decades. Perhaps, I could have done better.

About two weeks ago, the Brunton delivered a wonderful view of Jupiter and the Galilean moons. Jupiter was a steady, well-defined disk and the moons were sharp, almost bluish, points of light. In late June, when, for the first time, I had the Brunton mounted on my Orion Paragon Plus Mount/XHD Tripod, golden Albireo and its blue companion were as charming and colorful as with my Garret SS 15x70 and Oberwerk 20x80 Standard.

After almost four years, I now have several choices for observing and know pretty well when to use the Brunton Eterna 15x51.

Enjoy!

Hi Brian ,

I thought it about time you bought some new binoculars !

One of my other friends Erik D bought one of these , I think about three years ago , and was also pleasantly surprised by it's " useability factor " .

I'm intrigued by the fact that you can apparantly hold the image steadier , Brian , than even your beloved 15x Canon Image Stabilised model ! :-)

I still wonder though , why the 51mm ? -- why not just 50mm ? -- does that extra one millimetre of objective lens diameter make any difference ? :-)

I hope one day to test this one for myself , Brian .

Kenny

Kenny . I somehow forgot the Canons. Strange because i was using them just last night .
Trouble with Canons .They like the Garrett & the Swaro are kinda bulky & heavy .
These are about the same size & weight as the average 10x bin.
And another advantage is their price .
After being robbed in Spain 2 years ago & being prone [DUE TO MY ADVANCING YEARS] to losing things im wary of carrying expensive stuff on my travels.
Its so nice to hear from you again .
We hope to get back to UK again nest May.
With luck we will find time to visit you & Kathy.
Hope one day you can visit us.
Off to France next month [river trip]
Gotta go where Karin wants sometimes.
By the way i have Miyauchi Exceeds arriving in a few days .
Cant wait .
TA TA for now Brian.

Across the boulevard in the golf course, I have always seen purple fringing along the edges of the golfers' white caps. The brighter the sunlight upon their caps the more purple I will see. However, low light is cool. Like right now — a fog ridden mess. Yuck!

Why 51mm?

Hi Kenny and Brian,

I have to agree that 1mm will not make any significant difference.

And Brian, according to Ed's meticulous measurements, probably none of the specifications are to be printed in stone.

Great luck with your latest acquisition.

Best regards,
Dave.

There is something very neat and tidy about the specification figures 15 x 51 .

The concentricity means it would appear just as neat when seen through a mirror , even though when reversed it would appear more like 13 x 31 -- which co - incidentally is a spec. I can image some Image Stabilisation binocular fans getting in a bit of a froth about , given their respective penchants for higher magnification and smaller exit - pupils !
