8buck, I've just starting dabbling in astrophotography so I don't have much RegiStax experience. But, the wavelet functions at the end of the process make a big difference. Have you tried using the wavelet sliders?

With things where sharp detail is possible, I've found the wavelets invaluable. There's also a neat RGB align feature that can fix misaligned colors.
Just a newbie here as well, otherwise.

I made a registax tutorial a while back. It is version 3, but the commands are about the same: http://www.russsscope.net/staxtutorial.htm

I've found the "human" quality ranking method is generally the best.

Google "Mike Salway". He has an excellent tutorial on Registax V.4, but you can "read between the lines" and apply it to version 5.
