Is an H-Alpha filter just an eyepiece filter?

i'm just gettin started here and I have know idea how these are used.

No, an H-Alpha filter is a system of filter elements that usually go on the objective end of the scope along with other elements in the back end.

There are eyepiece h-a filters but they are NOT for solar viewing (even if used with a front-aperture white light filter). They are used for deep sky photography of nebulae.

The h-a filters used for the shots in this forum are dedicated systems that pass a much smaller sliver of the spectrum than the eyepiece filters.
