Mirror Tailgate Bumpers

The K&B book recommends the use of PVC or wood doweling for the mirror bumpers. Others on this site have recommended nylon rods with heat shrink applied to add some 'cushion'. Any reason why I shouldn't use what McMaster-Carr lists as 'Neoprene Spring Rubber' rods? Here is a direct link to their product:

that looks good.

whatever you use, just make sure it is softer than glass, and tough enough that it won't wear through as you bump along the road.
