I viewed this nebula with my XT12, and I could make out the ring shape, and a faint diamond ring effect, with a star touching it, has anyone ever seen this object, with any degree of detail? It's faint, and difficult to see in my light polluted skies, what can i expect from a dark sight with my 12" scope?...clear skies...

I have seen it in my 10 inch f/5.6 Newtonian from my dark sky site. My entry for Sept. 23rd, 1987 says:
"Moderate-sized (big for a planetrary) dim fuzzy disk with a slightly darker center (UHC). OIII makes into a faint ring with a glowing center (reminds me of Ring Nebula in a 2.4" refractor).".
Clear skies to you.

This observation of NGC 6894 was made using my 18-inch Starmaster two years back from a dark site in the Sierras at an elevation of 7200 ft. No filter was used.
Excellent annular planetary at 280x, ~40" diameter with a relatively large 25" darker central hole. The rim appears unevenly lit and possibly brighter along the north side although there are a couple of extremely faint stars involved on the N or NW portion of the rim that may have affected this impression. At 700x the rim is clumpy and a bit weaker on the west side.

8" Orion DSE - NGC 6894
Description: Pretty bright, round planetary with an easy ring structure. Some hint of elliptical-shape, but mostly round. Faint brightening suspected at the SW side of the inner ring. Central star not visible.
