LXD75 RA wiggle
      #3364012 - 09/29/09 02:38 PM

Hey guys,

I recently purchased a Meade LXD75 8" SN. Everything works great, but the mount has a wiggle (or i think some call it "backlash") in the R.A. axis, even with the RA axis lock tightened.
I've seen some sites describe how to fix it.. but very confusing for a beginner. I'd love to see a couple pictures in with a precise description of how to fix this problem? Or perhaps have it sent back to the shop? (this wouldn't be preferable)

This site has a pretty good description:

I wouldn't send it back to the shop, unless it's a good shop I doubt they'll take the time to get it just right.

Thanks codemonkey!

Here's some info I found while researching all this. Hopefully this will also help other LXD75 owners who are having backlash issues on the RA axis instead of the Dec axis.
(found this info after digging through CN searches)
There are adjustment screws in the RA drive assembly, after removing the black cover. The hex nut for the RA motor is located just under the polar alignment scope on the south end of the RA housing. It's kind of hard to see, since it's recessed in the end of the housing.

This is different from the Dec housing so it was very difficult to find this tidbit of info.

After reading this thread I decided it was time to tweak mine up a bit tonight, it has needed it for a while just never felt brave enough. It was actually very simple and only took a tiny bit of adjustment to get it right. Thanks for the help.
