Frank, Of much more recent vintage (late '90's), the Bushnell 4X21 Xtra-Wide's plasic eyepiece assembly used eccentric motion to effect collimation. Unlike close-fitting tubes, the assemply was based on one ring being much oversized, and the eyepice was simply 'wiggled' about laterally and then locked down by tightening the eccentric, and finally applying a spot of glue.
I happen to like the idea of eyepice eccentric motion; it's certainly superior, in my opinion, to forcing grub screws against the sides of prisms.

Funny how the discussion in very different threads sometimes converge on the same topic.

It's funny how the word converge so conveniently converges two separate threads and two separate meanings .

E. Lietz Dienstglass 6x30 Bought for spares, but restored as it was better than I thought. My arty girlfriend replaced the covering and polishing lightly to remove fine lens scratches bought this nice binocular back to life.

It seems that the identification is removed to hide the binoculars origin, possibly stolen after the war. Typical Leitz optics, need I say more?

Great job on those Simon, Marco I also have a pair OF H&A it really is worth removing the plaster on these and giving them a proper clean they are worth it. A great idea by the French makers to put plaster in to stop the prisms moving but 90 years on it deteriorates and really spoils the image. Simon have you the serial number on the Wray Eleven?

Hello Potts, even I have tried to give a clean complete binocular H&A but I reflected on the historical aspect of the matter. In fact it is not the only binoculars which I left in original condition (cleaning only lenses and prisms but without dismounting them completely). For example I also a GOERZ Armee Trieder Mod 1908 (bought in Sofia-Bulgaria)with original cover of eyepiece, which has collimate perfectly and only with a little veil of dust on prisms. Since I have others that are completely overhauled ... I preferred to keep one with the smell of the story on him.
P.S. last night I was at dinner with friends ... and on a rack I saw a binocular reduced very badly, but looks very familiar ... I cried ... "Quello è un San Giorgio!!! ".... I got but it said wrong also to written .... I was right ...is a San Giorgio ESA 30 6 1930s-40 (was his grandfather of the owner of the House). I have delivered to try to restore. Will be very difficult for the poor conditions ... but I will try!!
Bye

Hi Potts nice to hear from you, I will add the serial number this evening along with the Dollond Owlta 12x50 that should arrive today. I have tried to clean the French binoculars without removing the prisms with little luck.
N.B
I have updated the Wray Eleven on my site with serial number and still awaiting The Dollond.

The lower magnification Nikon is similar to the 8 & 9 X models although not as good optically. Image goes soft disappointingly quickly, and although central resolution is good, the image lacks the punch of the other models. I will strip the oculars and clean them as there seems to be some haze internally. Not a poor binocular by any means, but not great either. Has anyone here owned this binocular, I would be interested if they found the same findings.

Interesting comments. I have a Nikon 7X35 E Series which is a terrific binocular, but have heard from other collectors that the 7X35 Nippon K J-B7 is also very good. My impressions of the first J-B7 8X30 I had were very similar to yours about the 7X35: after using it I was surprised by its rather average performance because I had read several reports about how good it was supposed to be. Then a few months ago I got another J-B7 8X30 and lo and behold for some reason its optical performance was quite impressive, everything I expected from the first one.

Yes, I was expecting wonders and although not bad not great. It has however been got at, it was miles out of collimation and the eccentric locking rings where loose. I will have another look tomorrow. Thanks Frank.

This is fantastic that you all are talking about Nikons.
Does anybody have knowledge of the production numbers of the models in the E, EII, and Superior E series?

Hi OJ, no have no info about the E series, but someone must?
I stripped the oculars tonight, they are a very basic design using a doublet eye lens and and field lens. Using them today in good light still lacks the performance of the other Nikons, and to be honest performs no better than some of the budget 7x35's from Japan.

Ok the latest is..... I stripped the prisms out last night and although they looked clean through the objectives, there was a light cloudy haze on the them. Removing this has bought them up to the performance of the other Nikon models in the collection.

There are some fantastic Vintage B&L 8x30s on the auction site. Like New in Box with all original accessories. However they look to be pre WW2 and are likely to be uncoated.
