I very much agree with you! It is a very robust with binoculars, but an excellent quality.
145-147m/1000 field, good almost to the edges.
I would like to completely disassemble it and clean it but now it is already 90% of maximum performance and attempts to dismantle the eyepieces, went badly and I do not want to risk doing damage to you (maybe) 95% of clean image.

The Taylor Hobson is a first rate binocular. My example is, as Bensi's sharp the almost the very edge, and of high build quality. Arthur, the British service binoculars were never retrofitted with coated optics as far as I am aware, but I have been wrong (most of the time)! Both Bensi and myself had a hell of a job dismantling the ocular assembly, but the end result has worth the pain.

This piece of history arrived today, with it's original box, a German instruction on the inside lid and a optically perfect binocular.
This Galilean model was not in service for many years, it has a very narrow fiend of view and a 6X magnification, high for a small binocular without prisms.
The centre disc with the makers name and model is used to lock the IPD, the scale of which is below this disc.
A few warnings for future collectors of this binocular.
The Screw on the top disc undoes CLOCKWISE.
Also be warned that removing the eye cups will result in the eye lenses falling out if the binocular is tipped up as if to look up.

Great! Simon!
double hit! Goerz and Fernglas08!
These are fantastic pieces of history.
I have one of the company Fernglas08 Emil Busch also advisable that, but missing the beautiful and original case, with internal label in germany language(with the characteristics and instructions).
Congratulations!
It also I would like to buy a similar case with the Goerz.
An hour ago there was a closed auction on ebay for a Goerz 8x30 Helinox 1926-27 doublets with anti-reflective coating on the front and the eyepieces.
http://cgi.ebay.it/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390282095099&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
Unfortunately I could not take it ... but I have a sort of "clone" in the SUSS-Goerz 6x30 of the same year.
Virtually identical (though he had no anti-reflective coating is just amazing ... and bright as a counterstand coated with treatment).
I will send you '... a picture later.

A few minutes ago it was sold in an auction ebay .. a rare Goerz 8x56 binoculars, 150/1000 with a Kellner eyepiece!
The weight is over 3kg.
I hope that the buyer is among the members of this forum, so we do a review, performance and design characteristics of the binoculars.
It is sold for a small fee ... $ 1688.
Bye

Just came across this picture. http://www.flickr.com/photos/binocwpg/5400962803/ What type of binocular does Von Richthofen have? It's not a Galilean or a DF 6X. It's big, looks wide-angle and picture is circa 1917. A Goerz Nachtglas 8x56?

No I do not think ... 3Kg weight around his neck is not possible and the Goerz 8x56 did not even have the hooks to put the straps around the neck. Instead it may be the Zeiss 6x42 1914 with 160m/1000. bye Marco

Good points. The Zeiss 6X42 weighed 1044 grams so it also was a large binocular although not as big as the Goerz. The Zeiss had a FOV of 9.1 deg.

Zeiss Feldstecher. Modelle Merkmale Mythos. Handferngläser von 1894 1919. By Hans Seeger. I just received a copy of the new book by Hans Seeger. For now I will send the strongest recommendation that it be purchased by all who are interested in the subject. I realize the difficulty in justifying a $200. book, in German, to those who cannot read the language. But this is an important book, and just seeing the the 2000 color photos, the variety of models, and the superb engineering that they represent - is worth the price. The text (875 pages) represents a level of detail and explanation not previously seen in books on binoculars or telescopes.

Yesterday night I dismantled the Taylor Hobson bino. A little difficult open the superior covers prisms , but all ok !! The graticule is easy to exit from eyepieces tubes for the good cleaning. All prisms faces have a little fog and I clean with water and few drops of liquid soap.
Great !! binoculars. Today morning I bringing with me the taylor bino and I looked the mountain, and birds water.
Fantastic the great focus of bino. From 80-100m to infinity ever focus and estremely bright and sharp.
My compliments to britannic optics!!
Any photos..
