Thats a shame Bensi , I am searching for a pair but they are very hard to find. I think €140 is to much for me too! If I come to Rome I would love to come and visit you and your collection, but I think we will need to bring a translator too!

Just a note of thanks to Simon for starting this thread up again after previous thread was archived, over 10'000 views must make this thread one of the most consistent and popular on the site.( I still think it deserves its own sub forum like classic telescopes?)

Are you bidding then Bensi?
I came found a pair of San Giorgio" ESA's listed on a UK site, I will ring the seller tomorrow to see what they are like.
My latest addition is this Zeiss 7x50 bought with lens separation on the objective and requiring some cleaning.
I was amazed the age of this instrument, unless I have got confused dates from 1911?
Image on the repaired scope seems as good as the original a nice restoration that I enjoyed very much.

1911 fits in Simon, but according to database on Europa the Binoctem didn't come in until 1919? although there is a Noctem listed in 7x50 as running from 1911-1919 (misprint perhaps?)
These were waiting for me when I got in from work today, a long awaited pair of Wray AM 6x30, I have another pair but they need a replacement objective.
These are fine mechanically and now I have cleaned them just about optically perfect, image is on a par with a WW2 Kershaw 6x30.
I have noticed however that these are slightly different from my other pair the differences are;
1) different knurling pattern on the oculars
2) different 'knurling' to objective securing rings
3) the number on them is 6E/471 instead of 6E/293
4) the vulcanised covering is less defined than on the 6E/293 pair and the covering is brown not black
Not sure what these differences mean or dates for either as they appear serial number free, also like my other pair of AM's there are no casting numbers inside or any stamped on the prism retaining bars, could it be that war issued ones had these left off along with Wray London to stop the bombing of their factories?

This nice little Wollensak is unique in it's design. The outer case removes when the ocular is removed, allowing full acses to the prisms. The image is narrow but very contrasty and sharp and has signs that a reticule might once have been present.

I like those Simon (I think Hensoldt did something similar around 1900?),you don't see many Wollensaks for sale though there was a pair on you know where recently, I guess you know who bought them?

I am now genuinely running out of space now, having said that there will soon be a 24"x24"x8" drawer that will be emptied in my home office when I take the last few bike parts out and get the bike built up...I reckon I can get about 10 pair of binoculars in there, then it's time to fill the loft I suppose?

Tell me about lack of space. Although a thin out of the collection might be in order.

how do you decide what to cull though? I don't honestly think I could get rid of more than 10% max...to be fair if I had a mansion and unlimited funds I reckon I'd still fill it eventually!
