CPC1100 with Nikon D90. I have no idea how good or bad this might be. We're coming out of solar minimum (slowly...) so the number of spots should pick up over the next few years until the predicted max in 2013. Not bad for a first shot. I found that if I slewed the scope a bit so my camera focus box was right on the limb I got better auto focus. Then I'd hold the focus with "half shutter" and slew back to center the disk. Then I'd snap the pic. You might also try reducing your exposure just a bit. I usually tried for an exposure that would just start showing a distinct darkening along the limb of the sun. You're starting to get there but the center is just a tad overexposed. Overall, a very promising start and the beauty of digital is you can shoot away for no extra cost. I was in manual focus mode. I think the ISO was set at the 3rd lowest setting (lo.3) and the "shutter speed?" was set at 500, so there's plenty of room for less exposure. The Nikon D90 also has settings for "D Lighting". Can anyone explain what this is and if it's important for astrophotographers?
