Telescope Reviews: Where's Stephen Ramsden?

Wow Ken!

I am so impressed that you would ask for me. Thank you. I read every post every day and enjoy the photos from all over the world. Cloudy nights propelled me into the international Solar scene and I am forever grateful.

I have done 11 events in the last 7 weeks and am driving 6 hours to Daytoina Beach in the morning for a 2 day event down there at Embry Riddle aeronautical university. Then next week it is off to a poor county in Tennessee to do 3 schools in 2 days. I will also be at the LUNT Solar forum November 11th (i think) to lecture on starting your own non-profit for astronomy outreach.

I have been getting about 25-30 hits per day on www.charliebates.org with about 3-5 outreach requests per week.

I also have been spending WAY too much time on trying to secure grants to keep the outreach going at it's ever expanding level. For the first 2 years it was around $25K/year and I could afford that with no problem. This year us already over $40K so I am forced to spend time on the financial side of things. I hate dealing with money and am not very good at it, alas I have to keep filling out grant applications and have bought several items from ink pens to hats to embroidered shirts to lanyards to send to my donors. It is getting to be a full time business.

Anyway, I will retire in 3 years and then the fun starts. i plan on building the countries only solar observatory dedicated solely to student outreach on my land here in Georgia.
