I've just bought a pair of Carl Zeiss Jena Nobilem 8x50B binoculars off Ebay that apparently have a badly chipped prism and are out of collimation for £32 inc. postage. First question - from this picture HERE are they the 'Super' Nobilems? They look like it to me, in which case I believe they are quite rare - how many were made? I know that in good nick these go for hundreds of pounds but am hoping I've not just wasted 32 quid on this damaged pair
Secondly, is there anywhere I could try that might have a spare prism for this model to replace the chipped one? I'd prefer somewhere UK based but am willing to widen my search. I know about Optical Repairs and have been recommended Viking Optical Repairs in Glasgow, UK and will drop them an email once I have the bins but have a feeling they might not have the part I need. I'm going to have a go at re-collimating the Nobilems when I get them early next week to get them into a usable state, will evaluate how badly damaged the prism is too.
I hope I'm not chasing a lost cause here as these seem to be an excellent pair of bins and I'd love to get them into a serviceable condition and try them out!

I think this is the optical service you are looking for. Harald Ros maybe still has spare parts for that binocular, or at least could give suggestions to find them. My personal experience with this service has been especially positive. Replacing one or two prisms with original spare parts in the Nobilem 8x50 Super could cause problems in matching them, and could make collimation hard or even impossible to get. For this reason I would avoid to get the spare parts to repair the binocular, and would send it to the service that has the original prisms. Here is a picture of a sectioned Nobilem 8x50 Super. It seems that the rear prisms are much bigger than the front ones. Good luck Claudio

Just to say that the picture comes from the site of Holger Merlitz, sorry for that, it was stored in my PC and just now I realized were it was coming from. Claudio
