Sep09 DSLR Challenge Poll!

We are very pleased and proud to present the September 2009 entries in the DSLR Challenge. The poll will close on October 9 at Midnight. The winner will be announced at our earliest opportunity after the poll has closed.

Captured over 2 consecutive nights. Modified Canon 350d on a 10" Newt, guided. ImagesPlus/Photoshop CS4. Higher res image here with additional details.



Hermit:



Very interesting trying to bring out the background dust! A larger version is available here .

Images acquired over two nights, August 22 (4 minute subs) and August 24 (five minute subs) for 110 exposures (8 hours), 72 degrees, ISO 1600. 30 darks, 30 bias, no flats. Calibrated, stacked with DSS, final in PS CS3. Equipment in my signature below.

The subs of the Cocoon Nebula were taken 9/16, 9/18 and 9/19/09 50 mls. south of Hamburg/Germany.

Meade 12"ACF, GEG f-6.5, 2000mm, guided with GEG and ST2000XM imager, Canon EOS 20 Da Baader filter, 24 subs up to 9 min. Totally 3 hours, 20 min.

processed with: DSS, Fitswork and PS-CS2 .

Taken 9-11-2009 under dark skies with wonderful seeing. The last sub was taken at midnight just as the moon crept above the north eastern horizon.

Canon 1000dh no filters at iso 1600.
Auto guided with wo66 and dsi proII.
Vixen Sphinx mount

Stacked in dss
Asinh stretch in iris
Levels and curves in cs3
Slightly cropped

COCOON NEBULA: Over two nights, this is 3 hours and 10 minutes of 5 minute exposures with the self-modded Canon XTi @ iso800 through the CPC925 @ f6.3 on a Mitty wedge, guided with SAAG through the EON 72mm. Stacked in DSS, stretched in PixInsight, and tweaked in Photoshop.

Hi,

I think, after all that nebulas a galaxy like M 77 will be nice. Bright core with inner arms and very dimm elongated outer arms. Nearby is NGC 1055, a "heavy smoker" under the galaxies. The southern "group" of astronomers can also reach M77 very easy, it is located near the galactic aequator.
