Mirror cells-10" in a Blacklite tube? new
      #3367439 - 09/30/09 11:50 PM

I am thinking about further modifications to my dob (it just never ends), and I would like to try a Blacklite tube. What I found is that the inside dimensions of the Protostar Blacklite is smaller than the original cardboard tube, and my mirror cell will not fit. Do any of you have recommendations for a good light weight mirror cell that will work with the smaller inside diameter of the Protostar Blacklite? I would prefer to purchase rather than make one.

Thanks,

~jerry

Check Astromart classifieds under "Telescope Making". There's usally a few mirror cells listed there.
A University Optics style mirror cell should work for you if you can find one.

I also rebuilt my 10" with a protostar tube. The 10" cell University optics sells (sold?) works just fine.

I also bought a protostar tube only to find that my Novak cell didn't work. Contact Dennis Steele at dobstuff. He has also 10" cells for sell in the classifieds.

Do you have a Dremel and a mini clothfibre cutting wheel attachment , can't be that hard to modify the cell end the tube insert , or just cut so it's just short of the tube bolts / screws that hold the cell to the OTA wall.
