Autoguiders for G11

I understand that the Losmandy G11 has an autoguider socket, but does anyone know what autoguiders can be used with it without a computer?

I can use a notebook PC in the back garden if required, but I'd rather avoid this in order to simplify setting up. I have a G11 on order.

Any stand alone auto guider should work fine. The Orion one works for instance, though it may not be the best. SBig has one but there are a few out there.

I have heard good things about the Orion. Did you have a bad experience, blueman?

SBIG ST4 and STV will both work fabulously with the Gemini system...

I'm loving using my STV with my MI-250/Gemini setup; phenomenal guiding accuracy and really FAST to setup (takes about 2 minutes from turn on to calibration done and guiding...

There's a used STV Deluxe over on AM right now for $750; and you could get ST4's for probably $250 - $300...

I can't praise the STV highly enough... not cheap, but really, REALLY worth it.

Hi,
My only exerience is with the non-stand alone one, it had banding in the images and did not show many stars, making it difficult to use.
I have heard some references to some problems with longer than 3 sec exposures. Nothing to much, just would not be willing to promote the product.

I have the LVI-smart guider and Losmandy G-11 with Gemini 4.3. First they worked OK but not any more. Now I do not get through the calibration and I get a error message "motor not moving". I have checked the connections and have not found any brakes or shorts. I have a boubt that LVI's outputs (at least RA-) have maybe broken when they tried to sink the 10mA current from Losmandy autoguider port. The other possible reason is overvoltage. I have not yet hurried to study, what really is broken. Losmandy works still OK, also via autoguider port. I'm going to build a test cable with leds, so I can see, what's happening in the cable.

I ran my G11 without Gemini for several years using a ST4 and STV guider. Gemini makes it easy to find things but is not required to guide.

This is the reason, why it has not disturbed so much. The most disturbing point is that now I have few hundred euros useless equipment and I have not used to fail.

Answering to myself...
The problem is solved, I had too small difference between sidereal speed and guiding speed. I adjusted them so that RA- =0.2 x sidereal and RA+ is 1.8 x sidereal speed. Now it works.
I got the tip from Finnish Avaruus.fi forum.
