I got mine two towns over for a whopping $30- the dust cap has a chip on the side which makes it somewhat loose, scratches on the OTA and some paint flaked off, and the teeth of the gear for the drive have issues, but otherwise in fine condition.

Thanks Guys
The literature was very useful. My wife was not very excited about my purchase as this is my 7th scope but I just could not pass up. My father inlaw is going to use this one when he joins me in the next star party. He will love the attention. Thanks again.

Only 7? Tell her to kick back, relax and wait a few years! Mine didn't make me start selling my scopes until I hit 28!

1960s Spacek? 6" on Cumberland Valley Craigslist [Re: Glassthrower]
      #3440964 - 11/10/09 08:49 PM

One of the more bizarre looking 6-inch equatorially mounted reflectors that I have seen on Craigslist. First glance might indicate an Edmund 6" Space Conqueror, but look at those twisted legs! The tube also appears to be made out of fiberglass, but of this I am not sure.

The advertisement on the Cumberland Valley, Pennsylvania Craigslist was posted on 10-26-09, and the link to the website is found at:

http://pennstate.craigslist.org/for/1435896414.html
(I am not the seller of the telescope.)

What brand is this scope?

'Big Telescope' on Eastern Connecticut Craigslist [Re: Glassthrower]
      #3440980 - 11/10/09 08:58 PM

If anything, this ad is fun to read. From the seller's description it sounds like a vintage C-8 Schmidt-Cassegrain with wedge and tripod. The ad was posted on 10-15-09, and the link to the website is found through:

I saw this and i am having an internal battle with myself. Should i offer my 3" Lafayette or keep it, i swore i would never part with it.

A small scope that gets used often is a better investment than a big scope that stays in the closet.

Unitrons, you spend more time looking at them than you do through them.

I peaked out at $750 when Clint told us it had been left outside for 8 months and the pix were a year old. I asked the seller how long had it been left out and how old the pix were and got a non-answer, so I gave up on them.

I still think that it was probably a good deal at the selling price even if some restoration would be needed, but I already have a couple 8" scopes and would prefer adding a 10 or larger classic.

Anyone here have a spare Swift 831 collecting dust that they would let go for a reasonable price? Please lend a fellow scope addict a hand! :-)
