i can kind of see what you are saying but i don't regret my choice.

I have no plans/desires for a 16inch RC or some such and for any optical tube i am ever likely to consider owning the AP900 suits me perfectly. With PE of +/-1.5 out of the box uncorrected whats not to like.

If i did ever want a bigger mount id be looking at the El Capitan and doing it in style!!!

I am actually waffling back to the 900.

After thought the 70 pounds I am hearing is a legit 70 pounds that you can image at. You don't need to follow the ultra conservative 50% of the weight capacity.

So even a new Edge HD C14 at what 45lbs with camera and mounting gear you are maybe 55 lbs and from what I am hearing you will still track perfectly fine.

Which also means 12 inch RC's are possible maybe even 14 RC's so yah I think I should be fine.

Does anyone object with this, regarding putting 50, 60 or even up to the 70 lbs on this mount for imaging? if so what % of the 70 lbs do you feel is the max to image well.

I don't think you will regret the AP900, particularly if you need to set it up nightly. I was on the list for the 900 a couple years ago, then jumped up to the 1200 because it was available, and only $1k more. Love the mount but even the half's get heavy when I take it to star parties.

I just upgraded my Mach1 to the 900 for the little extra capacity in case I don't want to lug out the 1200.

Thanks for the input.

Any opinion on the weight question I posed above?

Well here is how I solved the problem. I ordered the 900 which should ship in October and put my name on the list for the 1200. So when the 1200 comes available I could sell my 900 etc etc.

Now I must practice increasing my patience as I wait.

Thanks to everyone for the input.

Awesome thread guys-- I think I'm almost sold on
buying the Tak EM200. My imaging experience is quite
limited, but the integrated polar alignment scope seems
like a "must have"...

Any specific recs on the best way to power this thing?

I've not owned one, but most of the guys that I've spoken to about the Tak mounts use 24 volts to get the quicker slew rates.

Oh gosh, I don't wish I'd gotten an AP1200, and I use a C14 with a top mounted 4" refractor. I'm happier with the AP900. I don't do imaging, but I think I could with this rig, but the main point is, I always drive to a club site, and I really don't want the extra weight and bulk of the AP1200. If I ever get into photography that may change, but I don't seem to have strong pulls in that direction.

Greg n
