Am considering installing the Losmandy digital encoders on my G-11, intending to use them with my Sky Commander DSC unit. Has anyone on CN used the Sky Commander with these encoders? Seems to me that a pulse is a pulse. Any help would be appreciated.

I am no expert, but did have a G-11 with the encoders and Losmandy DSC. I am reasonably sure the Losmandy DSC's are just a relabel of the Sky Commander. In fact, when using TheSky 6 to communicate with them, you use the Sky Commander setting.
I think you are good to go.

You can use Sky Commander, Argo Navis, NGC Max, etc.

Thanks Greg and Joel:
Yeah, did some reading and found that I can use the Losmandy encoders as long as I use external battery power, and I'm good to go in that respect. Appreciate your input.

Daryl I used the SkyCommander with my G-11 with Losmandy DSCs with the internal battery, and the '12 volt' output jack on the electronic box. No problems.

I think it is true that you can use an internal battery, but external is a better way to go particularly if you use the internal heater, which if memory serves, Sky Commander has.
In colder weather small internal batteries tend to lose their effectiveness which is why I abandoned them after my first year in upstate NY observing. The same is true of six C or D battery packs that come with some systems. So yes one *can* run the Sky Commander off an internal battery but it is better to run it off the control box and supply the mount with a robust source of power.
In public discussion forums we need to be careful about context, someone writing from San Diego has a different perspective on "what works" compared to someone in Chicago.
