      #3383281 - 10/11/09 07:37 AM

Hi all, been looking for another option to the eq5 for my Orion Optics 8" f6 newt. Its 1200mm long, can the vixen porta cope with this scope?

Thanks Rob

The Porta Mount maxes out around 10 lb. Your 8" f/6 probably weighs more than that. Also, the diameter of the OTA would interfere with the az hub/tripod top.

Compared to the EQ5 you have, are you looking for something with more stability, lighter weight, alt-az,...?

Yeah, a 6" OTA is about as big as your gonna fit on a PortaMount.

Alt az... I use an Orion SkyView AZ mount. I find it works well with either or both of my ~ 16 lb OTAs and it might be OK with your 8" Newt depending on its weight. I don't know if it is available in the UK.
