I have a TMB 130SS. The total payload with rings and dovetail plate, diagonal and eyepiece is about 25 pounds. It looks like either the Half Hitch III or DM6 would handle this. What are your experiences with either of these mounts for a payload like this?

DM6 easily. I have not used the HH. A Giro II or III with balance weight would handle it easily as well. The weak point in any of these is the tripod. I use a large 2" leg and with my present 90mm and giro there is no vibration after tapping the scope or tripod. Previously with a heavy TMB 115 and DM6/extension and wooden tripod it was fine with < 1/2 sec damping times.

Hi Stew; I have had the HH Mark III and presently have the DM 4 and DM 6. The HH Mark III is for the lighter scopes in the 80 to 100MM class and I have had the AP Star 130ED f/8 on to the DM 4. It worked well ...however...if you wish to expand you scopes and go for heavier accessories like at TEC turret..cameras etc...then the DM 6 with a good tripod will handle your needs. G-11 tripod or Davis Sanford HD folding pier are strong tripod choices. Have fun and good luck Howard

Go for DM-6.
TMB 130SS on DM-6

DM-6 handles 6" refractor loaded with binoviewer (44 lb) easily and I can track at 500x

I have a TMB130 and also have used it on the DM6 on the Discmount tall ash tripod. Works very well, no vibration when focusing, and it stays balanced when changing eyepieces. Nothing to lock down or adjust - just follow Tom Peter's instructions for balancing and you're in business.
I've also used it on the Stellarvue M7 mount/tripod combination, and it works well there, although you usually need to lock the vertical axis when changing eyepieces.
Attached is a photo of the TMB130 in action on the M7 - the 130 is on the left, AT90 on the right.

It's not out yet, but for less than the price of the Half Hitch and the DM4-6, you might consider the Ioptron Minitower Pro.

Thank you everyone for your comments. It is especially helpfull to hear your experiences with settle down times with the different tripods.
Tamiji, nice pictures. They convey the elegance of the DM6 very well. Would you recommend the handle? While I am seriously considering the DM6 I hadn't really thought about the handle.
John, nice setup. I am checking into the M7 but I have to admit I like the styling of the DM6.
Anyway thanks again everyone.

I agree with Tammy and on John. The DM6 is fantastic. I use it for my NP-127 and AP-155 on a Losmandy G11 tripod. You can focus with essentialy no vibration using that set-up. The clutches have such a large surface area that you can easily track objects at 300X without seeing any movement at all just by applying a steady even pressure on the telescope or handle. You can change from a 31 Nagler to a small Ortho without the scope moving but it will take a nose dip if I remove my binoviewer. I solved this problem with a counter weight that I slide back and forth.

Thanks. I think it is good idea to browse www.discmounts.com, user galleries. You'll find more examples there.
I don't think the handle is a must-have thing but I like it. I think there are two lengths (18" and 24" angled/straight handle). I have 18" and 24" angled handles that I use for different scopes.
DM-6 is very solid specially on Losmandy HD/FHD tripod. I added wooden tripod (Berlebach Planet) recently for TMB 130SS use. It is lighter than HD/FHD tripod but it is still solid enough with TMB 130SS.

I have my C 9.25 on a Giro and Sokkia tripod and it's very stable. Explore Scientific has a Giro clone out that sells for $400 with a metal tripod. I saw one at OPT and it looked heavy duty. David
