Sketch of some more Herschel Items new
      #3368891 - 10/03/09 04:23 PM

Thought I would share a few of the Herschel items I've sketched over the last several weeks:

First one is NGC 6885, a nice open cluster to view right now, and rather large for a Herschel.

Here is the planetary nebula NGC 7008. I enjoyed viewing this and the skies were pretty good that night and as a result, I had some good viewing on this object.

I have viewed NGC 6946 The Fireworks Galaxy several times but I haven't sketched it at the eyepiece. So using the Digitized Sky Survey image I practiced using their image as a base. Here is a result of the practice session since the moon was full and its really cloudy right now.

So, I've been busy but I figure with Herschels who really wants to see to many of them though I am finding I am sketching more than I thought I would. One good thing was in September the weather cooperated enough that I completed all of O'Meara's objects for that month and got a jump on a few items for October. Clear skies to each of us I hope.

Nice sketches, Jay. Is that 7008 in your avatar as well?

Thanks, Frank, Carlos and Jeff for your kind comments. Yes Jeff, that is 7008 in my avatar. I liked its shape and details so I found an image. I really like PN's so I tend to change them up every 3 months or so in my avatar as I find one I really enjoyed.

Jay, this are nice sketches. I also put NGC 6885 this summer on paper. But used a smaler FOV. 12" dobson, x92 magnification, NELM 4.

Jef,

Nicely done. It's nice to see what someone else has seen on the same object. Thanks for sharing it.

Really excellent sketches Jay, I very much enjoyed seeing NGC 7008, very intriguing looking planetary nebula.

Rich and Lynn,

Thank you for your kind comments. Now if the skies would just clear again, but it looks good for mid week and next weekend so since that is new moon I'll take that!

Great sketches! NGC 6885 looks to be an interesting cluster, and you've captured fantastic detail in NGC 7008. What scope are you using for these fine deep sky observations?

Jay,

Using an XT10. Posted this in your post on your sketch but I have never run into so may Jay's in one place.

Great scope - I used an XT10 for a couple of years. It yielded incredible views. I know the confusion. I've only met a couple "Jays" in my life, yet here in the Sketching forum there seems to be a growing collection of us Jays.

I should change my signature line to help alleviate confusion!
