Nice report. It's interesting to see what people think of their equipment a few years into ownership. Looks like you and the ETX are still having good times.

The anecdotes that I've read in the forums here on CN have always put the ETX-125 at the "top of the heap" among the affordable 5" Maks, and the $699 price makes it even more compelling.

Yay-up...only fly in the ointment was that I had to pay quite a bit more than that when I got my li'l 125. Man, that SMARTS..! Course I have had a lot of fun with her in the interim. But sheesh!

Be that as it may, she's a great little scope and I recommend her to anyone willin' to overlook a few warts and...er..."personality issues." At that crazy price (even if Meade, as many of us assume, has a "new" ETX in the wings)...it's a no-brainer.

Rod, could you please elaborate on some of the "warts" and "personality issues" you've found? I didn't really pick up on them from reading the review.

Thanks!

Nice article! Yes-- I am also amazed with the accurate gotos on my Etx90---

Very useful-- especially at public observing events when we setup before the sun goes down.

Thanks Uncle Rod!

Hi Rod,

Your sentiments about your ETX echo mine about mine, especially the bit about eyepieces - it loves cheap wide-angle eyepieces.

A great scope packed with features, some unintended but educational nonetheless.

Great article. Like most here, I share your opinions about this telescope. The GoTo function has worked great for me. I especially like your comment concerning cheap eyepieces. The ETX125PE is very forgiving, much more so then my AT80ED refractor (I sure an f/15 helps here).

This was my first serious telescope. For those that are willing to take the time to learn the basics of using the ETX, I think it's a surprisingly strong contender as a great starter scope. It definitely got me hooked.

Very impressive . Wandering if the 5 inches i bought will perform this way.
Despite i dont need a goto scope this sounds like a good choice.
