I've been so thrilled with the 8x40's I got a few weeks ago that I just had to find a way to get another. Oh it took some kicking and scratching... but I finally squeaked em out..but I don't think Santa will be dropping much in my stocking this Dec as a result...I don't care though! LOL

Good luck with them, I have a pair and enjoy them. The only thing I don't like about these binoculars is the somewhat restrictive AFOV, and I don't really care for the objective caps or eyepiece caps, neither stay on worth a darn. I love the focus lock, I love the shape of the binoculars and how they feel in my hands. I think they are shaped perfectly. I am still considering picking up a pair of Nikon Action Extreme 12x50's to compare them to.

I have my 8x40s for wide viewing.
I considered the Nikon AE and Bushnell Legend 12x50s as well. But in the end I chose the Pentax based on my great experience with the pair I bought earlier.
If for some reason they don't fit the bill I can always exchange 'em anyway. But I have a feeling they'll be just fine for my needs.

I must say that out of all the binoculars sizes I've tried lately I'm most happy with my 8x40 Pentax PCF WPII pair. That mag is just perfect for both birding/butterflies and stargazing.
To me they offer the most pleasing view in terms of not only field of view but of sharpness, brightness, comfort, quality of view, and magnification capability. Its the "all in one" for me.
So I returned the 12x50s (and boy were they were awesome no doubt, and if I had the money I would have kept them). But the difference in view just wasn't significant enough to keep both when on a budget. I got myself a nice 2" 38mm telescope lens instead.
