Telescope Reviews: Dew shield cap

I noticed meade doesn't sell a cap for the meade dew shield. Looked around Walmart and really didn't find anything that would work. I ordered what's called a lens hood or hoodie from Adromada Camara. I got the 4.25-4.75 inch size for my 5 inch etx 125. Fits nice and snug. Only cost about 12 dollars. I also bought some velcro with the peel and stick back from Walmart and put a strip around the top of each leg to hang the controller. I noticed their's like an open slot on the belly of the tube of the etx. Down on the eyepiece end. It's about a quarter inch wide and maybe 2 inches long. Looks like dust, pollen etc could get in the optics. Is that open slot their for a reason ? I put tape over mine....Thanks
