I currently have a 120ST refractor. I'd like to have a bit more aperture, and a bit less false color, but also the ability to use 2" eyepieces, if need-be. I can't afford an APO, but...I can certainly afford a Newt.
The Orion Sky-View presents a nice 1-2 combo possibility with a 120ST on one side and an 8" f/4.9 OTA on the other side (that's still up to 2.6-deg TFOV in that; most impressive for cruising the Milky Way). But...
...anyone actually put a Newt on the Skyview? Because I'm thinking (a) if you put one on, it'll hit the tripod legs constantly, and (b) if you put a pier extension on, now the eyepiece height is too much.
I currently have my 120ST on an Astrotech Voyager Mount. It does the job, but I'm hesitant to put a scope on it with more girth than the 120ST.
Thoughts?

I had a 90mm refractor and the Orion 8" newt on one for a short spell.
I found the mount itself basically unusable and sent it back twice for replacements before getting a straight refund. But even if you get one you like is that as you guessed, the 8" OTA hits the legs pretty frequently as the head is not mounted high enough off the tripod legs.

I use either or both of my ~ 16 lb OTAs, EON120 and IM715, on a SV AZ mount. An 8" f/5 probably falls into the same weight range. For me, it works well, though I certainly prefer the CG5 for higher mag/planetary viweing.
Early AZ mounts had a deficit of alt friction. This was improved on later mounts and Orion offers a free update kit for mounts with the problem. My mount had that problem and I modified it myself, then later got and installed the Orion kit.

Can a pier extension be put onto the skyview mount?
I'd be curious to know if thats possible.
